“Schools have a duty of care to protect children and prevent them from harm, and act with a sense of urgency if a child is at risk of harm.”

At the heart of our school values, and as an AISA member school, TASOK is committed to keeping children safe – online and on campus – by providing a learning environment that is nurturing, and fosters the physical, social and emotional wellbeing of its students.
Child abuse and neglect are concerns throughout the world. Child abuse and neglect are violations
of a child’s human rights and are obstacles to the child’s education as well as to their physical,
emotional, and spiritual development. The American School of Kinshasa endorses the UN
Convention on the Rights of the Child, of which our host country, The Democratic Republic of
Congo is a signatory
The Truman Group provides high quality remote psychotherapy and mental health consultation to expatriates living around the world. We work with individuals, couples, families and children in regions of the world that have few local English-speaking resources available for mental health.
These resources are designed to provide a curriculum framework that can be implemented in International Schools in Africa. Much of the content was developed using information from current research on child abuse prevention. According to Child Protection research, the most effective prevention programs are comprehensive and include multi-day presentations, active learning strategies, and supporting materials for parents. As a result, this is what we have chosen to include here.
The American School of Kinshasa provides dynamic and individualized educational challenges and opportunities that promote diversity and empower each of its students to develop into independent global community leaders.
TASOK, founded in 1961, has persevered with pride over the years in the midst of a challenging political landscape. Despite these challenges, TASOK has continued its long-standing tradition of providing a rigorous academic American high school program. To this end, the school graduated its first IB Diploma Programme Candidates in May 2019. TASOK is a fully accredited IB World School, offering all three of the IB Programmes: Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP).
Grades are recorded on a semester basis with the school calendar running from mid-August to early June. Classes are on a block schedule with 85 minutes per class. TASOK does not class rank or report a GPA.
